► (1882-1949) Escritora noruega. Fue una gran analista del alma femenina. Fue premio Nobel de Literatura en 1928. Autora de Kristin Lavransdatter (1920-22).

Novelista noruega. Su padre era arqueólogo por lo que desde su niñez estuvo familiarizada con las leyendas, folclore e historia de Noruega. Sus primeras novelas tratan sobre el rol de las mujeres de la clase media baja contemporánea. Luego, volvió la mirada hacia el pasado lejano para crear su obra maestra, la trilogía Kristin Lavransdatter (1920–22), la cual está ambientada en la Noruega medieval y en donde describe el desarrollo espiritual de una mujer de carácter. Undset se convirtió al catolicismo en 1924. Sus obras posteriores, entre ellas la novela histórica Olar Audunssøn [El Señor de Hestviken] (1925–27) y otras novelas sobre temas contemporáneos, refleja su marcado interés por la religión. Recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1928.
